About ALBE
A Little Bit Extra (ALBE) is a Hong Kong charity founded by Abi Tannis Porter, a mother whose son Jacob has Down syndrome. ALBE supports, connects and enhances the development of children, adolescents and adults with Down syndrome and their families as they journey through life.
We are building a bilingual, lifelong resource hub for families in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, running a symposium series, growing community circles and developing partnerships with companies and foundations.
About the role
This is a hands-on, varied role for a recent graduate who wants real responsibility and a close view of how a small charity is run. You will work directly with the founder, support daily operations and communications, and own projects that make a visible difference to families.
Key responsibilities
Operations & founder support
- Manage the shared inbox, diary and meeting notes, and follow up actions with the founder.
- Keep records, trackers and files organised, including volunteer and partner contacts.
- Coordinate volunteers: scheduling, briefings and thank-yous.
- Help prepare board papers, donation receipts and simple budget tracking.
- Apply ALBE’s privacy and safeguarding procedures in everyday work.
Communications & content
- Plan and draft social-media posts, newsletters and website updates in a warm, dignified voice.
- Help maintain the resource hub: check links, update listings and coordinate translations.
- Gather consented stories and photographs following our consent process.
- Create simple graphics and short videos with tools such as Canva.
Events & community
- Support the symposium series and community events: venues, registrations, run-sheets and accessibility.
- Help set up and support moderated community circles and the noticeboard.
- Collect feedback after events and summarise what we learned.
Partnerships & research
- Prepare partnership materials, impact updates and ESG-aligned reports for corporate partners.
- Research funding opportunities, foundations and recognition schemes.
- Support the family needs survey: invitations, data entry and simple analysis.
What you will learn
- How a Hong Kong charity is governed: section 88 status, boards and compliance.
- Fundraising, donor stewardship and corporate partnerships, including ESG and Caring Company reporting.
- Inclusive communication, easy-read writing and disability-inclusive design.
- Event management, volunteer leadership and community building.
- Data protection and safeguarding in practice.
Essential
- A university degree completed in the last two years, in any discipline.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Organised, reliable and comfortable juggling several tasks.
- Confident with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and social media.
- Warmth, discretion and respect for people with disabilities and their families.
- The right to work in Hong Kong (for example, permanent residency or the IANG scheme for non-local graduates).
Desirable
- Spoken Cantonese or Mandarin, and written Chinese.
- Study or experience in communications, social work, business, public policy or design.
- Volunteering or lived experience of disability or caring.
- Basic design or video editing skills.
What we offer
- Close mentoring from the founder, with regular feedback and learning goals.
- Real ownership of projects you can show future employers.
- Introductions to NGO, corporate and professional networks in Hong Kong.
- Flexible, hybrid working and a reference on completion.
Inclusion
We welcome applications from everyone, including people with disabilities and people with Down syndrome. Tell us about any adjustments you need for the application, interview or role, and we will work with you. We comply with the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (Cap. 487) and Hong Kong’s other anti-discrimination laws.
Safeguarding
This role involves contact with children and adults with Down syndrome. The successful candidate will agree to our safeguarding code of conduct, complete safeguarding training, provide two references and apply for a Sexual Conviction Record Check.
